Medicine and Sickness Cure
‘Yunmen said to the assembly, ’Medicine and sickness cure each other. The whole world is medicine. What am I?’
~ Blue Cliff Record, Case 87

As this beautiful spring unfolds, it is a great time to take up this wonderful story. How is it that sickness and medicine need each other? That flowers and sun, that full moon and night darkness work together in the most intimate way to shine brightly? It is because the whole world is medicine that this is allowed.
The whole world is grace, light, and being. Without adding and without subtracting, both sickness and health contribute to each other and to us. What am I? I am, and you are, the whole world: flowers and sun, full moon and darkness, medicine and sickness. What a wonderful thing that is!
Let’s discover this ‘what’ anew on Monday night at the Camp!
